The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Bar Association was incorporated in Colorado on September 4, 2013

After years of sporadically connecting at various deaf and hard of hearing conferences, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Bar Association was formally incorporated.

2016

On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, twelve deaf and hard of hearing attorneys were sworn into the United States Supreme Court bar. This event marked the first-ever group ceremony for deaf and hard of hearing attorneys at the U.S. Supreme Court.

2018

On Wednesday, January 17, 2018, eleven members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Bar Association (DHHBA) were sworn in and admitted to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.

2019

On Wednesday, December 11, 2019, ten members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Bar Association (DHHBA) were sworn in and admitted to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.

DHHBA hosted our first ever conference on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

About Us

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Bar Association (DHHBA) is a volunteer-operated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of d/Deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, and DeafBlind attorneys, judges, law school graduates, law students, and legal professionals with all communication methods and accommodation needs.

We support and encourage each other, provide advice and counsel, engage in advocacy efforts, host accessible events, educate others, conduct outreach, inspire change, and come together as an organization for the advancement of d/Deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the legal profession.
